Flag Facts: The Kingdom of Thailand

National Holiday: Birthday of King Phumiphon Bhumibol (December 5, 1927)


National Symbols: Garuda (mythical half-man, half-bird figure); the elephant.


Interesting Fact: Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia that has never been colonized by a European country.


The flag of Thailand has five horizontal bands of red, white, and a wider band of blue. The thinner red band at the top of the flag is followed by a white band of equal width, a double width blue band, a second thin band of white and another red band at the bottom of the flag.

White: Religion; The purity of Buddhism

Blue: The monarchy

Did you know…

The flag of Thailand is similar to the flag of Costa Rica but with the red and blue colors switched.
